What is the UCG Partnership?

The UCG Partnership, is a non-profit organisation set up to independently educate, inform and promote Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) Technology globally.  The UCG Partnership, the only industry association UCG, has established a global alliance of knowledge, expertise, training, networking and information for UCG to address the growing interest and the need for trained and experienced operatives. Supporting almost 12,000 professionals, the Partnership has created a community for energy professionals and academics and a scientific and technical base for industry. We advise governments, regulatory bodies and the public, offering independent information, professionalism and a wealth of expertise in UCG.

Australia Launches Global CCS Institute

UCGP is delighted to have been invited to become a foundation member of the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute. The Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, proposed the establishment of the GCCSI on 19 September 2008, to accelerate the broad deployment of CCS technology and has said he wants the Institute operational by January 2009. Australia has pledged funding up to AU$100m per year to the Canberra-based Institute. UCGP believes the relationship will help highlight the need for research and implementation of UCG with CCS in the future.

What is Underground Coal Gasification?

UCG (Underground Coal Gasification) is the conversion of coal, whilst still in the ground, into a a high quality synthetic gas that can be processed to provide fuels for power generation, diesel fuels, jet fuels and hydrogen.

It is safe, cleaner and less intrusive than conventional mining and can utilise much of the worlds otherwise unmineable coal reserves.

On Tuesday 16^th June, the UCG Partnership is running a half day workshop ahead of the SMI Gasification Conference to provide delegates with a general understanding of underground coal gasification and why it is of significant and increasing interest around the world.  All UCGP Members Receive a generous discount - please apply now.

26th Annual Pittsburgh Coal Conference 21st - 24th September 2009

UCGP will again be running a half day UCG tutorial, in conjunction with Scientific Drilling,and LLNL, creating a platform of interest for more UCG presentations during the main conference programme.
