UCG on Television and in the Recent Press

A sustainable energy source

The Sunday Times Magazine. Black to the Future, a feature length article on UCG, appears as the lead  cover story for this weeks Sunday Times Magazine.The article highlights the looming energy shortfall and investigateswhat options are available. It emphasises the need for Governments to look at the Clean Coal options, especially UCG. This in depth well researched piece is of great significance as it is the first time a leading national journal has featured such an article on UCG, and will certainly help place it in the public domain.

The Yorkshire Post The Yorkshire Post of the 15th June ran a very good article on UCG, entitled "Underground Fires could bring power to the people". The article can be seen at the Yorkshire Post website,

BBC 4 The BBC 4 Programme Frontiers had a half-hour programme on the future of coal in the UK, which featured about Professor Brian Smart, who heads the Firth of Forth UCG project. He explained to the presenter, Peter Evans, the principle of UCG and described the current state of the project to examine the feasibility of UCG under the Firth of Forth in Scotland. Tyne Tees Television - Burning Question UCG Partnership (M Green) took part in a programme for Tyne Tees Television. The programme called the Burning Question was transmitted on the 22nd March 2006. It concentrated on the energy options for the North East Region of the UK, and ranged from Nuclear power to fossil fuels and renewable energy. UCG was identified as an advanced clean coal option.

TV2 UCG Partnership (M Green) gave a radio interview to the Norwegian Channel TV2 on the offshore prospects of UCG. 19th December 2006.

Return of King Coal in Scotland

A lead article in the Scottish newspaper the Courier, highlights the possibilities of UCG for the  coal  rich regions of Scotland
