Aims & Objectives

Environmentally friendly and safe

Our Aims - to be the definitive source of information, support and public focal point for UCG globally, to see worldwide deployment of Underground Coal Gasification as a proven method of clean energy capable of filling the world's energy gap.

Objectives -  to provide Members a comprehensive and current source of information on UCG and associated technologies and to encourage training, education and awareness of UCG methods.

  • Focal point for public information on UCG for Governments, press and media generally.
  • Definitive source of information to members on all aspects of UCG including technology, research and the latest worldwide developments.
  • Establishment of the benefits and issues of UCG as a carbon abatement technology.
  • Development of technology training in UCG.
  • Annual International conference and specialist workshops as required for members.
  • Identification of commercial opportunities for members to participate in UCG ventures around the world, and assistance with the formulation of projects
  • The identification of UCG with clean coal technology, good security of supply, low environmentally impact , economically advantageous.
  • Co-ordination and planning of relevant research in UCG activities and related aspects of CO2 storage

Membership Objectives 2007/08

  • In 2007/08 we intend to expand our membership to bring in more advisors, funders, lawyers, bankers and accountants to offer their services to other members to assist in the development of commercial activities in UCG.
  • With an expanded membership, particularly the larger energy companies, we will be able to represent the industry in a non-partisan way to ensure that the potential of UCG for large scale projects and energy supply is well understood

Conference Objectives 2008

Our aim is to ensure that our conference is the definitive conference on UCG. Priority areas include

  • UCG-CCS
  • UCG round up in various countries,
  • Technological advances, shared experiences,
  • Support issues such as seismic, drilling, surface plant, geology
  • licensing, environmental issues, planning,
  • research results and developments and modeling
  • project feasibility and finance
  • Progress towards commercialization.

Training Objectives 2007/08

Training Courses in Underground Coal Gasification

  • We are establishing formal training programmes for UCG in the UK.
  • Two Courses will be run by UCG Partnership in conjunction with UK Universities.

Courses in Europe, South Asia and other Countries

  • Subject to demand we will be exploring opportunities to run courses in other parts of the world. There a grants available and obvious expertise in the Universities and Mining Institutes around the world. Further information will be made available on the website.

Publication Objectives 2007/08

  • UCG Partnership is dedicated to provide the most extensive archive on UCG
  • Continue to produce a quarterly newsletter
  • Archive relevant papers in the Members Area
  • Provide material for general publication (e.g. Ecoal, Journal Articles)
  • Attend and publish general papers on UCG at coal conferences in 2007/08
  • Produce position papers in areas such as CCS
  • Membership Forums, Project Advice and Support, Sources of Funding, legal services and accounting

Employment Objectives for 2007/08

Register for individuals interested in working in Underground Coal Gasification

  • General Invitation to join the register as an individual, consultant, or member company with relevant expertise.
  • Identification of individuals with experience in chemical engineering, drilling, coal activities, hydrology, geology, modeling, pilot plant design and construction, data analysis, site identification, gasification, economics, health and safety, human resources, operations, development and production, seismic or any other experience relevant to this industry.
  • Information will be available free of charge to members.

Register of Employment Opportunities

Members will be invited to post job opportunities in UCG projects on the website.

Communication Objectives for 2007/08

  • To influence, explain and educate The EU, Government, Regulators, Environment agencies, Planners, Media Research Funding Bodies and "movers and shakers",
  • To "up our game" and expand our contacts with a range of opinion shapers.
  • To re-inforce our reputation for "punching above our weight"
  • To further develop the UCG Partnership website as the major tool in our communication of UCG supported by Exeye.co.uk
  • 800 hits per day and moving up the various search engine lists.
